Hello my name is Fran McHugh and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Neighbourhood Inspector for Birmingham East, covering Sutton and Erdington areas.
I have spent 19 years in policing, all in Birmingham. Most recently I have spent time as a response Inspector for Birmingham East and as the Offender Manager Inspector across Birmingham and I’m bringing all that experience with me into this role.
I am pleased to be back covering the Sutton and Erdington areas, as prior to promotion I was the Coordinator Sergeant for the area working closely with the previous Inspector and have spent time as a Neighbourhood Sergeant for Sutton.
I know that antisocial behaviour and off road bikes remain key concerns for residents. These are priorities for us too, and we’re committed to tackling these issues in order to make our constituency a safer and more pleasant place to live.
I am looking forward to getting to know the community, listening to your concerns and working alongside residents, locals organisations, businesses and other partners to help keep our community safe.

Crimes and priorities

Reduce retail crime across Tyburn’s three major retail parks (Ravenside, Castle Vale, and The Fort) by working collaboratively with partners to target prolific offenders, develop and deliver an effective crime?prevention strategy, and strengthen public trust and confidence in the police.
Action taken:
In order to tackle retail crime across Tyburn we have been working closely with our Retail Crime Team and conducting plain clothes operations around the busy retail parks within the area. With the Retail Crime Team and the support of businesses affected by theft we have identified and arrested numerous prolific shop lifters and continue to police the area to minimize disruption to businesses.

Priority:
Address persistent anti?social behaviour by repeat offenders through collaboration with Birmingham City Council and partner agencies, implementing proportionate enforcement strategies for individuals who continue to negatively impact the daily lives of the community.
Action taken:
Anti social behaviour is being tackled within the Tyburn area through conversation with residents to identify hotspot areas. We have identified Compton Road and surrounding areas as a focal point and look to continue work around this area. We are also tackling antisocial behaviour outside schools and look to increase patrols before and after school.

Work with West Midlands Police Road Safety partners and external agencies to improve road safety across Tyburn, with a particular focus on Compton and Oval Road
Action taken:
To tackle road safety we have conducted a number of operations around the Compton and Oval road where we have identified multiple vehicles which have been used in anti social behaviour. We have stopped a number of these vehicles and seized them when grounds have permitted us to do so. We continue to work with residents to identify the causes of these issues and work with partner agencies to provide a joint approach.
