Two men are in jail today after being convicted of seriously injuring a man when he was shot in a car in Wolverhampton. We were called after a car hit another vehicle in Westbourne Road at around 6.30pm on 18 December, last year. On arriving at the scene officers found the driver, who was in in his 30s, had suffered a gunshot wound to the top of his leg and he was taken for hospital treatment. Investigations by our Major Crime Unit found that earlier two other men had arrived in a nearby alleyway with one of them then getting into the car parked outside a shop. A shot was fired and the man left. The driver then travelled a short distance before hitting a parked vehicle and the emergency services were called. With the retrieval of CCTV footage and the forensic analysis of mobile phone data, the two offenders were identified as Ethan Edwards and Ilir Hoxha, both aged 22. Following further enquiries the team traced the two men and arrested Edwards on 13 January and Hoxha, on 21 January. Edwards, of Upper Villiers Street, Wolverhampton, admitted wounding with intent and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Tuesday (25 Nov). Hoxha, of no fixed address, had previously pleaded guilty to the same charges in October. They've been remanded in custody for sentencing on 30 January. Det Insp Francis Nock from our Major Crime Unit, said: "These two men are now behind bars, and rightly so. "Gun violence like this is wholly unacceptable and with the weapon being fired at their victim at such close range and in a confined space, the intent was clearly to do him real harm. "Thankfully he has been able to make a recovery and both offenders have admitted being involved in the shooting which could so easily have proved even more serious." We arrested 25 people at a protest in Birmingham city centre this afternoon. The arrests were made during a demonstration organised by Defend Our Juries in Chamberlain Square, at which a number of people carried placards expressing support for Palestine Action. The group was proscribed by the Government in July this year, meaning it is an offence to be a member of it or express support for it. Those arrested were taken into custody under Section 13 of the Terrorism Act 2000. Ch Insp James Littlehales said: “We fully recognise people’s right to demonstrate peacefully, and many people continue to protest in support of Palestine without breaking the law. "But we will take appropriate action where people are breaching the law by showing support for proscribed organisations."
