Hi, I'm Inspector Maria Perrin, your local policing lead in the St Michael’s area of Coventry.
My priorities for the area include reducing anti-social behaviour, violence and sexual offences, business crime, and fostering positive relationships between the police and the local community.
I started in my role in January 2025 and have focused on meeting partners, key community members, and volunteers to understand what matters most to the communities of St Michael’s.
As an accredited detective with over 15 years of experience in local policing, investigations, and offender management, I have an excellent understanding of both operational and community-based policing responsibilities.
My teams consist of experienced and hardworking Police Officers and Police Community Support Officers who all have extensive knowledge of the community.
I am keen to ensure that our teams share their good work in protecting the public, and the policing website is just one way to do that. I invite members of the community to review the upcoming meetings, which will provide everyone the opportunity to attend and share any concerns they may have.

Anti-Social Behaviour in the City Centre
This includes individuals who are involved in public space alcohol consumption, drug use, aggressive begging and the dangerous use of illegal E BikesAction taken:
The St Michaels Neighbourhood Team is working with the Coventry City Council and other partners to stop illegal use of E Bikes often driven dangerously in pedestrian areas. We are using powers under the Public Space Protection Order to require riders to dismount when riding carelessly.

There are three areas of focus that remain a priority
1. Young females during NTE hours
2. Sex Workers in Hillfields
3. Vulnerable childrenAction taken:
Enhanced targeted patrols, greater information sharing between police and partners. There has been plain clothes officer operations in Hillfields during October, November and December. The operation is designed to engage with sex workers and offer help and support when vulnerability has been identified.
Hillfields neighbourhood team have continued outreach work engagement with Youth groups within St Michaels ward in order to break down barriers and connect with young children within this area. This has allowed for funding opportunties to be put into place in order for children to continue sporting activity.
Hillfields Neighbourhood Team have continued the disruption approach around persons coming into the area and using sex workers within Hillfields. This has led to Community Protection Warnings and Notices being issued to persons who were seen engaging with sex workers for their services. A review of CCTV cameras within Hillfields is underway between West Midlands Police, Citizen Housing and CV1 in order to identify the hotspot areas and target harden the vehicles which come into this area.
St Michaels Neighbourhood Team collectively have continued their community engagement with licensed premises within the ward allowing for positive engagement with door staff and high visible patrols to reassure members of public both to and from nights out.

Business crime, Serious Youth Violence and ASB in Lady Herbert Gardens has been highlighted as a key issue for St Michael's.
Action taken:
There have been enhanced partnership patrols across the area to reduce offending and improve the area for the public who utilise it. Various policing tactics have and are being used which have resulted in several arrests.
