Hello, I'm Sam Ingram, the local policing Inspector for St. Michaels Ward in Coventry.
As a born and bred Coventry 'kid' it has been an absolute pleasure to come back to policing in the city. My career started over in Birmingham East 16 years ago working through Bordesley Green, Small Heath and Alum Rock before promotion took me into a career in Intelligence services and Criminal Justice. After 6 years working as an Inspector, I am happy to finally return to Uniform Policing - I firmly believe that working alongside and talking to communities is the most effective way to solving the issues that matter the most.Â
I started my role here in Coventry in September 2026 and since that date have focussed on meeting as many partners, community leaders and businesses as possible to understand the priorities in St. Michaels. My focus for the coming year will be on increasing public safety - visitors to our city should be safe and feel safe. This means my teams will be working to reduce serious youth violence, anti-social behaviour in public spaces, business crime and child exploitation, with long term problem-solving at the heart of their work.
Outside of work, I am a committed Coventry Rugby man (sorry Sky Blues), fitness challenge enthusiast and very proud father of one.
Visibility is vital to this mission, so if you see my officers in the city centre and surrounding areas, please do say 'hello!' They are experienced, knowledgeable and hard-working folk who want St. Michaels ward to be a vibrant and safe place to live, work and visit. Anti-Social Behaviour in the City Centre
This includes individuals who are involved in public space alcohol consumption, drug use, aggressive begging and the dangerous use of illegal E Bikes. Ebike operations joint working with traffic.Action taken:
The St. Michaels team have focussed on tackling problematic drinking in public places, revoking the licences of premises that sell alcohol to children. We have secured funding for advanced new equipment to test E-Bikes at the roadside, enabling on the spot assessment, prosecution and seizure.

Working to ensure Halloween and Bonfire Night celebrations are enjoyed safely and responsibly.
Action taken:
Coventry Police are working with the local authority, key stakeholders and community members to help ensure these celebrations are enjoyed safely and responsibly.
Neighbourhood officers will be out across the borough reassuring communities and preventing any behaviour that could put others at risk.
We will be working with licenced premises to ensure that safe securing of fireworks and appropriate selling is taking place.
Our Prevention Hub officers are working with schools to ensure that educational resources are delivered to schools to educate young people on the importance of staying safe across the period.

Public place violence, including violence involving young persons and feelings of safety in public spaces.
Action taken:
St. Michaels officers will use data to target the places most vulnerable to violence crime types, ensuring that our patrols and activities with the Street Wardens, Street Pastor team and CVOne are focussed on proactive patrol in vulnerable areas.
We will use mixed tactics including plain clothes and highly visible patrols, supported by technology to identify and police those offenders we encounter. We will also work with our partners to ensure vulnerable persons and victims are supported, and offenders encouraged to change through community remedies and civil interventions.

Repeat offence locations in Broadgate where shoplifting and other offences against businesses occur.
Action taken:
The St. Michaels team are focussed on creating bespoke problem solving plans for those businesses that are disproportionately targeted, working with industry and partners to create a joint action plan to reduce offences.
We will focus on publicising our work, showing the consequences of crime and being present in both plain clothes and highly visible patrols. We will analyse which age groups and community areas are involved in the crime type, then seek proactive opportunities to educate and deter.
