Hello my name is Fran McHugh and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Neighbourhood Inspector for Birmingham East, covering Sutton and Erdington areas.
I have spent 19 years in policing, all in Birmingham. Most recently I have spent time as a response Inspector for Birmingham East and as the Offender Manager Inspector across Birmingham and I’m bringing all that experience with me into this role.
I am pleased to be back covering the Sutton and Erdington areas, as prior to promotion I was the Coordinator Sergeant for the area working closely with the previous Inspector and have spent time as a Neighbourhood Sergeant for Sutton.
I know that antisocial behaviour and off road bikes remain key concerns for residents. These are priorities for us too, and we’re committed to tackling these issues in order to make our constituency a safer and more pleasant place to live.
I am looking forward to getting to know the community, listening to your concerns and working alongside residents, locals organisations, businesses and other partners to help keep our community safe.

Crimes and priorities

Retail crime and anti social behaviour around Princess Alice Park and retail areas.
Action taken:
Several arrests of prolific offenders have been completed and offenders sent to court. We shall continue to do this and sent to court and also apply for a criminal behaviour order for relevant offenders.
There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour from a group of youths. We have identified some of the offenders and will be looking to speak with parents as well as those causing the ASB and considering different options to reduce / stop incidents.

Burglary and off road bike issues have been raised by the local community and an increase in police contact has been requested ensuring as much visibility as possible
Action taken:
Officers have been conducting reassurance visits to those who have been victims of Burglaries. We are aware the devastation this type of crime can cause. Officers have offered crime prevention advice as well as officers looking for any opportunities to identify offenders. Work will continue with regards to this and local residents should be aware that there are operations in place to deter and catch those offending.

Reports of Anti Social Behaviour on The Greenway grassed land involving youths on motorbikes.
Action taken:
Lots of residents have been spoken to with regards to their concerns.
Meeting with partners has taken place and a site visit has been conducted to see if the site can be made more secure and less attractive. More details to follow.
Further patrols have been conducted and further partners have been spoken to. Work will continue around this. Partners have been liaised with an different options are being considered as well as awaiting on funding to understand the full options available.
