Hello I am Inspector Claire Jones and I am currently responsible for Selly Oak and Edgbaston Constituencies .
I have twenty years of policing experience the majority of which I have spent in neighbourhood policing. I am extremely passionate about neighbourhood policing and I enjoy serving my community. I thrive off making a difference and improving the day to day quality of life for people in our communities.
I am proud to have a Diamond Award winning team for our service delivered to our communities with the Neighbourhood Team Excellence Award 2022. This was awarded for the high arrest, stop search and knife recovery rate, as well as diversionary visits to youth suspected of being involved in serious youth violence.
We also had a huge footprint in the community in terms of positive engagement for recruitment and holding community events. I am humbled to have also achieved Police Officer of the Year at the Women in Policing Awards for my tenacity towards tackling youth violence and gang activity.
I am a mother and a foster carer with three additional boys living with me at home and so it is more than fair to say that I really want to make a difference in communities but in particular I am drawn to helping young people. I have demonstrated this in my work in terms of serious youth violence and my time working on the organised crime and gangs team.
I have worked in Winson Green and Handsworth areas my whole career; they have a special place in my heart as I grew up and went to school in these areas.
I’m also one of the stop search leads for Birmingham. As part of this portfolio I hold Stop Search Scrutiny panels with the public to show some of the stop searches conducted and have the opportunity to obtain feedback from the public and use it constructively in order to make improvements to our practices.
I am a strong advocate of partnership work and really value the relationships developed with all our partners in order to make a real difference in our community. I thank you all for your continued efforts and support.
When I’m not at work I enjoy watching reality TV shows, (I know it’s not for everyone!) I also love going on holiday exploring new places, learning about new cultures and sampling the food they have to offer!

Force Priority - Vehicle Crime
We are currently engaged in tackling vehicle crimes in the Quinton area. We are also working closely with other departments within West Midlands Police and community partners to gather intelligence and target offenders involved in vehicle-related crime.Action taken:
To tackle vehicle crime effectively, our team is increasing patrols in areas where these incidents have been most prevalent, employing intelligence-led policing to identify patterns of offending.
We strongly encourage residents to take steps to protect their vehicles, such as ensuring cars are securely locked, removing valuables from sight, and parking in well-lit or secure areas where possible. Our officers are available to offer crime prevention advice and assist with security measures to help reduce the risk of vehicle-related crime at our drop in surgery's.
We urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or concerns. Quick reporting can often prevent crimes or assist in the swift recovery of stolen vehicles.
The Quinton NHT is committed to working with the community to reduce vehicle crime and improve safety for all residents. Local Priority- Retail Crime
Retail crime continues to have a significant impact on local businesses, staff, customers and the wider community. We are committed to working closely with retailers, partner agencies and our communities to reduce shop theft, violence and abuse towards shop workers, and other offences affecting local businesses.Action taken:
The Quinton Neighbourhood Policing Team (NHT) will:
- Carry out high-visibility patrols in retail areas at key times to deter offending and provide reassurance.
-Work alongside local retailers to identify repeat offenders and share crime prevention advice.
-Use intelligence to target those responsible for persistent offending and take positive enforcement action where appropriate.
-Encourage businesses to report all incidents of retail crime so we can build and accurate intelligence picture and identify trends.

Community Priority - Drug Dealing
Drug dealing has a detrimental impact on our communities, contributing to anti-social behaviour, violence exploitation and other criminal offences. Following concerns raised by residents and information gathered through local engagement, your Neighbourhood Policing Team has identified drug dealing and associated criminality as a local policing priority.Action taken:
The Quinton Neighbourhood team will:
- Conduct high visibility and plain clothes in identified hotspot locations to disrupt drug-related activity and provide reassurance to the community.
-Act on intelligence received from members of the public to identify investigate and target those involved in the supply of controlled drugs.
-Use appropriate stop search and arrest individuals suspected of involvement in drug offences.
-Work with partner agencies, local authorities and housing providers to tackle locations linked to drug related crime and anti-social behaviour.
-Safeguard Vulnerable people who maybe exploited through drug related criminality including county lines activity by working alongside partner agencies to provide support.
