Lozells and East Handsworth

Force Priority – Op PLAZARI

We are committed to tackling violence and the exploitation of vulnerable women on the streets of the Handsworth and Lozells area.
We know that the Soho Road and surrounding areas are hotspots for prostitution. Our neighbourhood policing teams are intensifying our enforcement of this activity. We are working with multiple partners internally and externally to identify and safeguard vulnerable people.
We will also operate a zero tolerance approach to those exploiting and utilising illegal services around the Handsworth and Lozells area.

The Lozells and East Handsworth NHT have been working with partners to intervene with illegal prostitution and we have been identifying vulnerable individuals with a view to referring them into safeguarding plans.

July Update:

PC Brookman and Pc Manns have delivered several Violence against Women and Girls inputs in secondary schools.
Several patrols conducted with Turnaround, Women’s Refuge and Umbrella Outreach ( supported by NHS ) engaging and supporting vulnerable individuals on the Soho Road.

Community Priority

Concerns raised by residents, local businesses owners and Councillors regarding parking. Vehicles parked inappropriate causing obstruction. Pavement parking in Lozells..

We are working with Birmingham City Council Parking Enforcement. We know that the majority of vehicles are owned locally, so we are using a mixture of education and enforcement, to persuade residents and customers to be more considerate.

-Lozells and East Handsworth officer have conducted high visibility foot patrols when able to do so.
-Promote the use of Operation Snap for some moving traffic offences and parking offences.
-Actively trying to recuit a streetwatch group to conduct patrols to engage with / educate road users at fault.
-Also working with Birmingham City Council to address a parking issue. We are taking a partnership approach.
-Problem vehicles across the neighbourhood are being recovered for a variety of offences including parking offences, no tax, insurance, obstruction offences or simply being stolen. This increases visibility at key junctions and frees up valuable parking space for residents and business.
Joint patrols with Birmingham City parking enforcement on the following days.
Monday 30th July – 10 tickets issued.
Monday 17th August – 17 tickets issued.
Tuesday 25th August – 14 tickets issued.
