Hello my name is Fran McHugh and I am pleased to introduce myself as the new Neighbourhood Inspector for Birmingham East, covering Sutton and Erdington areas.
I have spent 19 years in policing, all in Birmingham. Most recently I have spent time as a response Inspector for Birmingham East and as the Offender Manager Inspector across Birmingham and I’m bringing all that experience with me into this role.
I am pleased to be back covering the Sutton and Erdington areas, as prior to promotion I was the Coordinator Sergeant for the area working closely with the previous Inspector and have spent time as a Neighbourhood Sergeant for Sutton.
I know that antisocial behaviour and off road bikes remain key concerns for residents. These are priorities for us too, and we’re committed to tackling these issues in order to make our constituency a safer and more pleasant place to live.
I am looking forward to getting to know the community, listening to your concerns and working alongside residents, locals organisations, businesses and other partners to help keep our community safe.

Anti-social behaviour in the area between The Swan Pub and Borsch Electrical.
Action taken:
The Erdington Neighbourhood Team has increased patrols in the area and have conducted a joint operation with Sutton New Hall and Tyburn teams to target the Anti Social Behaviour. This resulted to several stop and searches and the seizure of a large quantity of Class A drugs. Erdington Neighbourhood have linked in with our local partners for their support and we will continue to patrol and disrupt this behaviour. Speeding and Parking Issues in Spring Lane, Erdington
The road is subject to 20mph however local residents have raised concerns of speeding.
Action taken:
SpeedWatch has been a great success and we are looking at new areas to carry out SpeedWatch which are community lead. We are now looking at holding our SpeedWatch event in and around the Sycamore Road area. Any residents interested in holding or joining these events in their area, please reach out to Erdington Neighbourhood Team for more information.
Alongside police, local residents have been working together to create safer roads and better parking for their roads.
A letter has been given to the school so that this can be sent to parents advising them of parking correctly. We will work in partnership with the council enforcement team and patrol the location when we are able to.

Cars being driven dangerously around The Abbeyfields Estate.
Action taken:
Officers will be utilising Section 59 Powers to seize vehicles that are being driven in an Anti Social Manner. Increased patrols have been started in the area, with officers already seizing one vehicle. We will continue with these patrols throughout the winter months.
