Jen Mattinson joined West Midlands Police as Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) in December 2023 before becoming Temporary Deputy Chief Constable (DCC) in January 2026.
She started her police career with West Mercia Police in 2001 after completing a law degree at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. In 2009 Jen was successful in the national assessment centre for the High Potential Development Scheme which saw her successfully obtain a Masters Degree in Police Leadership and Management.
In March 2018 Jen transferred to Staffordshire Police on promotion to Superintendent. During her time at Staffordshire Police, Jen served as both a Detective Superintendent and Detective Chief Superintendent, with postings including Head of Partnerships, Neighbourhood Policing Commander, Head of Corporate Services and Head of Crime.
In September 2021 she was appointed to Temporary ACC and performed this role for 18 months. During this time, she led a significant programme of work to deliver improvements to child protection arrangements. This work was a precursor to a larger project to design a new operating model for the force’s Public Protection Unit (PPU).
In December 2023 Jen transferred to West Midlands Police and took up the role of ACC for the Crime Portfolio where she held the Executive responsibility for Public Protection, Major Crime, Forensics, Intelligence and Criminal Justice. In March 2025 Jen became the National Police Chiefs’ Council (NPCC) lead for Police and Court Bail within the Criminal Justice Coordination Committee.
In January 2026 Jen was promoted to Temporary DCC.
Over her career Jen has completed the Multi-Agency Gold Incident Commanders course, Gold CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and High Yield Explosives) course and has been a Specialist Strategic Firearms Commander and Gold Public Order Commander for several years.
