A prolific thief’s been jailed after Sutton Coldfield officers caught him waiting for the shops to open.
Due to his previous offending, Kieran Brookes had been banned from Princess Alice Retail Park, and given strict conditions as part of his Criminal Behaviour Order.
However, on Sunday (1 March) eagle-eyed neighbourhood officers were on patrol and spotted him there as the shops were preparing to open.
When they went to move him on, Brookes ran from them – but unfortunately for him couldn’t lose our team and was arrested after landing on a shopping trolley when trying to jump a fence.
The 32-year-old was subsequently charged with two counts of shop theft, and three counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order.
On Monday (2 March), at Birmingham Magistrates Court, Brookes admitted the offences and was jailed for four weeks.
PC Tom Harris, from the Sutton Vesey Neighbourhood Team, said: “We will continue to disrupt and target offenders in this area, so that businesses can trade without the fear of criminals like Brookes stealing from them.
“We’re working hard with shop owners, staff, and other partners, to help them protect their businesses – and I would urge anyone with concerns to contact us.”
