A new recruit is following in his father’s footsteps to police the streets of Sandwell.
Student officer Jack Tranter is set to start his policing career next week, joining Sandwell’s response team.
Jack was inspired by his dad John Tranter, who has worked in policing for 26 years.

John said: “I’m extremely proud of Jack, who is starting his career in Sandwell like me.
“He’s starting off in Response just like I did 26 years ago. It’s made my Father’s Day to know that in a few days time he will be on the beat, keeping people safe.”
John now works as a Sergeant in our Partnerships team but has worked in a variety of teams such as Neighbourhood Policing, Offender Management, Response and Proactive Crime.
Jack added: “Listening to my dad’s stories when he came back from a shift really encouraged me to progress a career in policing. It’s a career I’ve always wanted to do and I’m looking forward to getting involved in everything I can.”
Jack is completing the police constable entry programme (PCEP) which means he is spending his training on the frontline with experienced officers.
