A man has been jailed after breaking into a Stourbridge home in the early hours of the morning, stealing cash and bank cards.
On 16 November last year, Glen Yates, broke into an address on Hungary Hill at around 4am while the occupants were asleep.
Yates stole cash and bank cards that were left in the victim’s jeans. He then went on to use the bank card at a nearby petrol station.
Following CCTV enquiries, including reviewing footage from the petrol station, we identified Yates as the burglar.
The 48-year-old was arrested and consequently charged with burglary and fraud.
Yates of Mount Road, Tividale admitted the offences and was sentenced to two years and one month in jail.
PC Luke Johnson, Dudley Neighbourhood Crime Team, said: “Yates broke into the home of an innocent man in 70s, stealing his money which he then went on to spend at a petrol station.
“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own homes and we are dedicated to ensuring that offenders face justice for their crimes.”
Residential burglary is a priority for us in Dudley and in the last year there has been a 16% reduction in the offence.
