We're investigating after a man was seriously assaulted on St Pauls Road, Smethwick, shortly before 8.30pm, yesterday (Sunday).
Officers attended and a man in his 50s was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be life-threatening.
A 45-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding and remains in custody for questioning.
We are in the early stages of our investigation, and we remain at the scene to conduct a thorough search to understand exactly what happened.
