We are investigating after a man died after a car hit a tree in Smethwick early today (Thursday).
Officers were called to Oldbury Road at the junction with Spon Lane South at just before 12.45am and found the driver in his 40s being treated by ambulance colleagues.
Sadly, despite all efforts, he was pronounced dead a short time later. His family have been informed and are being supported at this difficult time.
Investigators understand the vehicle, a BMW, had been stolen last night from an address in Oldbury.
Enquiries are underway to establish the exact circumstances of the collision with CCTV being retrieved and reviewed.
Investigators ask that anyone who was in the area at the time and has dashcam footage or information, contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on email at [email protected]
