Today (26 Nov) we’re patrolling West Midlands roads targeting dangerous drivers and uninsured road users as part of a continued effort to make our roads safer.
Road safety and multi-agency operations will be taking place, and we will be supported by local officers from across Solihull, Birmingham, the Black Country, Wolverhampton and Coventry.
Our police dogs capable of seeking out drugs, firearms and digital devices will also be in action, and we will also have support from our drones and wider operational units throughout the day and night.
It’s all part of Operation Advance, which is designed to bring the full strength of our force to bear in a day of intense activity.
While Operation Advance normally focuses on a particular city or borough, today is focusing on road safety.
Our Road Harm Prevention Team and Commercial Vehicle Unit will be joined by partners as they carry out Multi-Agency Road Safety Operations (MARSO).
Our road crime and road policing teams will be carrying out operations targeting drivers who commit Fatal 4 offences including speeding and driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
The Motor Insurance Bureau will be working alongside our units in hotspot areas targeting uninsured drivers and we will be carrying out road safety awareness outside schools and taxi operations.
We are committed to making our roads safer for every road user and pedestrian. Our officers work 24/7 in our efforts to achieve Vision Zero – alongside our partners to halve the number of deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2030, and to reduce it to zero by 2040.
Chief Superintendent Sarah Burton who oversees our Operations Unit, said: “Today is about showing our commitment to road safety and working together with our partners, reducing the number of deaths and serious injury on our roads.
“Our focus remains on targeting motorists who are a risk to our roads and those who commit Fatal 4 offences, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and putting lives at risk.
“We are committed to making our roads safer alongside our partners and the community.”
Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and for us to achieve Vision Zero goal – no more deaths or serious injuries on our roads by 2040 – we all have a vital part to play.
