Three men jailed for more than 45 years for robberies across Birmingham and Sandwell

Three men have been jailed for more than 45 years for carrying out a series of robberies across Birmingham and Sandwell, stealing high value jewellery.

Kayne Davis, Kayne Roulston and Michael Jones committed the robberies between April and August 2023.

 

During their robbery spree, they stole more than £100k worth of jewellery by threatening their victims with violence.

On 22 April, a man was parking his car in Hurst St, Smethwick when he was approached by Davis, Roulston and Jones.

The man was pinned to the car and threatened with a knife as his Rolex watch and necklace was snatched from him.

On 17 May, another man was threatened and robbed as he parked his car in Ladywood. While at the parking meter, he was approached by Davis who threatened him with a knife, before being pinned to the floor and threatened with a gun.

The man had his gold bracelet and necklace stolen.

Davis struck again on 16 August. This time targeting two friends as they walked under the subway on Holloway Road.

The two men noticed they were being followed by someone on a scooter, before one of them was grabbed by the neck. It was Davis, who went on to snatch the man’s necklace before fleeing.

The two friends ran after him, before being attacked by assailants of Davis’. Jewellery, an iPhone and car keys were stolen.

Davis, Roulston and Jones carried out robberies over a five-month period, threatening their victims with violence. One victim was told “I’m going to stab you, don’t die for a watch.”

Detectives painstakingly trawled through CCTV and spoke to witnesses for each robbery and identified those involved.

Davies aged 26, Roulston aged 27 and Jones aged 22, appeared at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday (11 March) after being convicted at an earlier hearing.

Davis, of no fixed address, admitted to conspiracy to commit robbery, wounding and an attempted robbery and was sentenced to 19 years and three months in prison.

Jones, from Green Meadow Road, Birmingham, admitted to conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery, wounding and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Roulston, from Daisy Road, Birmingham pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and was sentenced to nine years in prison.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Underwood, from West Midlands Police, said: "The Serious & Organised Crime Team along with our Offender Management Unit worked around the clock to identify those involved and were determined to get justice for the victims of these crimes.

“These three individuals posed a real threat to our communities which are a lot safer now they are behind bars, where they deserve to be.

"The effect this sort of crime has on victims who are threatened and assaulted should not be underestimated and the sentences handed down by the court reflect that. 

"Crimes like this will not be tolerated in our communities. Those involved in planning or carrying them out should be left in no doubt we will do everything we can to ensure they are brought to justice."
