Officers in Coventry have recovered a live firearm after it was spotted by members of the public.
We were called after a bag containing the gun was seen in some bushes in Bell Green.
When officers arrived, they confirmed it was a live weapon and recovered it for further examination.
Enquiries are now ongoing to find out how the gun ended up where it was found, and who might have left it there.
It is believed the weapon was left there by its previous "owners" and anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area on 7 and 8 March can contact us quoting log 742 of 8 March.
Thanks to the public for their vigilance, this is another lethal weapon taken off the streets.
Across Coventry and the wider West Midlands we are continuing our efforts against serious and organised crime, firearms and the people who carry them.
Along with proactive patrols, operations and warrants, we always encourage anyone with information to contact us via 101 or Live Chat, and always call 999 in an emergency.
All the information we receive from the public helps our teams build a clearer picture of where and when to target our operations and keep the public safe.
