Over the last few days and coinciding with British Science Week 2025, we’ve been meeting with women working in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) across West Midlands Police.
There are over one million women in STEM occupations in the UK but they still only represent around a third of the total STEM workforce. But we have women in senior positions in the related disciplines of forensics, IT& Digital, fleet services and asset management. We also offer entry routes such as apprenticeships into these roles and some of our senior leaders have worked their way up via similar training schemes.
We’re proud of the women who are leaders within their fields across the force and we met up with them to talk about their backgrounds, career paths, role models and the sort of advice they’d give to anyone entering their industry. We captured these Q & A sessions on film and you can watch and listen to these ‘Sit down with the specialists’ below.
