We’ve recovered a knife and drugs after one of our Operation Fearless officers pursued a suspect on on a bicycle in Erdington.
Sgt Rich Fryer had approached the man, who was also on a bike, outside Erdington train station just before noon yesterday.
The suspect immediately cycled off, but Sgt Fryer pursued him down Dean Road, shouting at him to stop, before he eventually did.
A knife and drugs were recovered during a search of the man and a subsequent search of an address.
A 21-year-old man from Erdington has been charged with possession of a knife and was due to appear in court today.
Enquiries into the drugs recovery continue.
In another success for Op Fearless, officers arrested a man in the High Street at around 5.30pm on Friday after staff at a pub reported that he’d been acting suspiciously.
When staff challenged him, he smashed windows at the pub, but was quickly arrested by officers, who recovered a knife and discovered that he was wanted for a separate robbery.
The man has now been charged and remanded in custody by magistrates.
We launched Operation Fearless this month to drive down crime and improve the quality of life for people in Erdington.
Working with partners at the local authority, we’re committed to disrupting and arresting criminals, tackling anti-social behaviour, theft and violence in the area.
