A brand new StreetWatch group is now patrolling Erdington High Street, joining forces with our local neighbourhood officers to make the area even safer.
Made up of local volunteers, these community heroes hit the streets today (Friday 10 Jan) for their first patrol, and it was a huge success.
They joined officers from our local neighbourhood team, working together to build relationships with residents and businesses while increasing visibility and providing extra reassurance on the High Street.
“This is a fantastic step forward for our community, especially after the launch of Operation Fearless this week – a major new initiative to drive down crime in the area,” said Sgt John Reeves from our Erdington neighbourhood team.
“StreetWatch volunteers play a vital role in making our streets safer, and we're incredibly grateful for their support. The increased presence will not only deter crime but also create a stronger sense of security for everyone in the area.”
Want to join the team?
If you're looking for a way to give back to your community, meet new people in the area, and get those steps in, then StreetWatch is perfect for you.
As a StreetWatch member, you'll be part of a team that helps prevent crime and anti-social behaviour by carrying out regular patrols in the area. You'll be required to do at least two hours of patrolling each month, but you can do more if you have time.
Roger, a local resident who has lived in Erdington for over 60 years and joined StreetWatch said, "I'm doing this for my grandchildren, and all the other children in the area, and I want to make Erdington a better place for their futures."
