Ever walked down your street and wished you could do more to make your community a safer place? Well, now you can by becoming a member of StreetWatch!
StreetWatch is all about ordinary people like you coming together to make a real difference in their communities.
Did you know we already have over 130 amazing StreetWatch groups keeping an eye on things across the West Midlands? That's right, hundreds of people just like you are already making a real difference by looking out for each other, but there's always room for more to join.
Think of it as a friendly neighbourhood group, where everyone plays a part. You don't need any special skills or training – just a pair of eyes and a willingness to help.
Sam O'Dell, StreetWatch co-ordinator within the force, said: “Joining StreetWatch is like having an extra set of eyes and ears looking out for everyone. It's a small effort that can make a big difference. You get to meet some great people along the way and feel more connected to your community.
“We're so grateful to our 1,000+ volunteers across the West Midlands who are already making communities safer. I encourage more people to join our team.”
StreetWatch is about being part of a friendly network, keeping an eye on things in your area, and reporting any suspicious activity you spot.
You might notice a broken window, an unfamiliar car parked suspiciously, or someone acting strangely. By simply reporting these things to the police, you're helping to keep your community safe and prevent crime before it happens.
Joining StreetWatch is easy and rewarding. You'll connect with other residents who share your concerns and feel more connected to your neighbourhood. You'll also receive regular updates from the police and be part of a network of people working together for a common goal.
As a StreetWatch member, you will patrol your local area for at least two hours every month, at times which suit you.
In case you missed it last week, we launched a new StreetWatch group in Erdington. Our volunteers went out on the High Street for their first patrol and had a great time.
They walked up and down the High Street, talking to people and keeping an eye out for suspicious activity. They also handed out leaflets about StreetWatch and encouraged people to join.
Watch the video below to see what our volunteers got up to and hear their reasons for joining StreetWatch.
How can you join StreetWatch?
Think you could spare a little time? Even a few hours a month can make a huge difference. Plus, you'll meet some fantastic people in your neighbourhood and feel good knowing you're contributing to something positive.
