Man charged with multiple thefts and assaulting police in Solihull

A man’s been charged with several offences after we were called to reports of someone stealing from a shop in Solihull.

We were called by members of the public to a shop on Stratford Road, Shirley yesterday afternoon (6 February).

One of our officers was assaulted while trying to make an arrest, but thankfully they were not seriously injured.

Nader Abou, aged 26 and from Birmingham, has since been charged with theft from a shop, and assaulting an emergency worker.

He has also been charged with ten further offences in Birmingham including:

• Four counts of burglary
• Two counts of attempted theft from a shop
• Theft from a shop
• Attempted burglary
• Theft from a motor vehicle
• Fraud by false representation

He is due before Birmingham Magistrates today (7 February).

We remain committed to identifying persistent shop theft offenders and arresting them.

Over the last year, we have arrested 743 (39%) more people in connection with shop theft and we have solved more than 3,379 offences (126%) compared to last year.
