Plane crash in Ahmedabad
The UK is working with local authorities in India to urgently establish the facts and provide support to those involved.
A 32-year-old man from Tipton has been jailed yesterday (Thursday) for supporting a banned organisation.
Mohammed Nafees Ahmed was sentenced to 12 months after pleading guilty to eight offences of supporting a proscribed terrorist organisation.
Ahmed posted numerous anti-Semitic, violent and threatening comments on the social media platform X from October 2023 in support of Hamas and repeatedly glorified reports and videos of Israeli soldiers being killed.
Hamas as an organisation as a whole proscribed in November 2021.
He replied to posts from political figures in the UK and the US and also goaded the Metropolitan Police Service to arrest him during his posts.
Ahmed was arrested on 20 March and charged on 16 September with eight counts of supporting a proscribed terrorist organisation.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing in the West Midlands is Detective Chief Superintendent Alison Hurst. She said: “We will not tolerate hate crime and violent and threatening comments or supporting and promoting an organisation that’s been banned by the UK government.”
Every year thousands of reports from the public help police tackle the terrorist threat.
