Armed Forces Day: Force praised over support for service personnel
This Armed Forces Day, we are proud to announce that WMP has been praised for the support it offers service personnel. We've been awarded a Silver Defence Employer Recognition award as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS). It recognises employers who support defence personnel and aims to inspire others to do the same. Organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support to defence and the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant, can be awarded bronze, silver and gold awards. We first signed the Armed Forces Covenant back in 2012, and this latest silver award recognition reinforces our ongoing commitment to our colleagues who are veterans, armed forces reservists and cadet leaders. Inspector Jennifer Hulston and Chief Inspector Johanna Comer have worked with T/Assistant Chief Constable Paul Drover to secure the award. “Being awarded a Silver Defence Employer Recognition Scheme demonstrates how our recruitment and workplace processes offer the opportunity to transition from the armed forces into policing,” said ACC Paul Drover, WMP strategic lead for Veterans, Reservists and Armed Forces Recruitment. “We’ve also taken steps to make sure our special leave policy supports Armed Forces Reservists’ ability to meet their annual training days requirement, by providing up to 10 days additional paid leave to reservists, to ensure the resilience of our nation. “Colleagues who have served or continue to serve in the Armed Forces bring a wealth of leadership skills, professionalism and specialisms. We are incredibly proud to have these people as part of our policing family, a message I’m sure we all share this Armed Forces Day and throughout the year.”
